The absolutely insanely long queues for a club in Cardiff last night

Thousands of people braved the drizzle in Cardiff to queue for a nightclub as the finally reopened on Saturday night.

Nightclubs were allowed to reopen after 17 months - and many people couldn't wait to take advantage of the new freedoms.

Both Cardiff and Swansea were packed with revellers and you can see all the images from the night here.

Although it rained for much of the night in Cardiff, this didn't put off determined clubbers where there was a 150 metre queue to get into Pryzm nightclub on Greyfriars Road. The queue stretched from the entrance to the club almost all the way back down Park Place to Queen Street.

Railings were put up to manage the queues with security on hand to stop people pushing in. The rest of Greyfriars was also packed with queues also for Yates bar and Tiger Tiger.

Many nightclubs had begun planning events for 12.01am on the Saturday, however this was thwarted when the Welsh Government announced that the restrictions were going to be lifted at 6am instead. This left venues scrambling to refund and rearrange tickets. You can read more about this here.

From yesterday, nearly all coronavirus restrictions were lifted in Wales, offering people and businesses the most amount of freedom since the start of the pandemic.
