The 'absolutely beautiful' 37p air fryer snack hailed as 'a dirty little secret'

Air fryers have been the rage recently, with fans using them to cook up a whole variety of healthy snacks for literal pennies.

One such snack that went viral on social media last year involving a cheap tin of peeled potatoes and some seasoning was hailed as a "dirty little secret" by many who had tried it.

But is it as good as everyone seemed to claim? Well, Emma Gill from The Manchester Evening News decided to give them a whirl herself and it looks like they are well and truly worth the hype.

The trick was shared last year on the Tower Air Fryer Facebook group by one shopper who hailed the potato snack as "absolutely beautiful". What's even better is that it is incredibly simple and cheap to make.

All it requires is a 37p tin of peeled potatoes from Aldi, which you can toss into a big bowl with some olive oil, paprika, garlic powder and cayenne pepper.

Once you have coated the potatoes in your seasoning, you can then pop them in the air fryer for 20 minutes at 200C. Once cooked through, give them a little bit off a shake and they are ready to be tucked into.

And it looks like the delicious sounding snack has generated its own fanbase, as the original post sharing it was met with positive comments other air fryer fans who had tried it out.

"These are a dirty little secret," said one.

One reporter has agreed that the snack is worth the hype (The Manchester Evening News)

"Yes I have done this as well a few times, lovely", agreed a second.

Like so many things that go viral, it is always worth trying them out for yourself to see if they really are worth the hype. Emma Gill said: "Having tried them myself I have to agree and even though it works out at just pennies for the spices, I think the paprika and garlic powder would be flavoursome enough if you wanted to keep the cost down even more.

"Of course they were nicer sprinkled with a bit of salt and even tastier dipped in a bit of mayonnaise, or you could pick a dip of your choice. I guess the dirty little secret is out."
