The Aaron Wan-Bissaka moment that shows Manchester United signing can get even better

There was a moment 54 minutes into the pre-season victory over Inter Milan which encapsulated what Manchester United have bought in Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

You wouldn't expect a 21-year-old signed from Crystal Palace to arrive as a complete player — despite a £45m transfer fee — and Wan-Bissaka is not that yet. It showed in a rare lapse as he under-hit a lay-off from the right channel towards Jesse Lingard and Inter threatened to counter.

What followed next, however, was the best of Wan-Bissaka and United fans couldn't hide their excitement after seeing their new signing show what he's capable of.

Wan-Bissaka sprinted back, made up the yards on Inter's Dalbert Henrique who had charged forward and was preparing to send in a left-footed cross when the right-back timed his challenge perfectly.

United fans had expected to see those trademark Wan-Bissaka tackles, for which he was lauded at Selhurst Park. No defender made more successful challenges than Wan-Bissaka last season. But it was the recovery run that shows the player has the perfect attitude — and gave an insight into why Ole Gunnar Solskjaer signed him.

"We're building a team and Wan-Bissaka did really well today," Solskjaer said after the Inter game in Singapore.

"He's hard to go past and he was good going forward as well, so I'm very pleased with his performance and the team's performance."

Wan-Bissaka has shown glimpses of his ability going forward so far in pre-season. He provided an excellent assist for Mason Greenwood in the 4-0 win over Leeds United, but the fact he gave the ball away cheaply against Inter shows that he can still improve in that area. Solskjaer is asking plenty of his new signing and wants that contribution going forward.

But Wan-Bissaka is starting to show why United were willing to pay £45m, rising to £50m, for a player with so little experience.

Some United fans have even claimed he's "the best right-back in the world" on social media. But either way, Solskjaer's plan needs a rock solid right back and United didn't have that last season.
