The Aaron Ramsey transfer statement that will make Arsenal fans sick

Aaron Ramsey was a firm fans' favourite at the Emirates.

And it was something of a wrench when he left north London in the summer for nothing, having run down his contract at Arsenal.

Ramsey had been in negotiations over a new contract for some time before leaving on a free, and a deal was even on the table for him to stay before it was taken away at the last moment.

The Welshman struck up a pre-contract agreement with Juventus and moved to Turin in July. But a new manager arrived at the club between him signing and arriving at the Old Lady, with Maurizio Sarri replacing Massimiliano Allegri at the helm.

And things have been hit and miss for the midfielder in his first season.

He has played 24 times, although only half of those have been starts, scoring four goals, with two of those coming in his last two Serie A outings before the coronavirus pandemic called a halt to all football in the country.

Ramsey's future in Italy is not set in stone and there have been reports linking him with a return to the Premier League, with Manchester United a possible destination.

Those same rumours have suggested that Ramsey could be used as a makeweight in a deal for Juve to take Paul Pogba back to Serie A.

And former Welsh manager Chris Coleman believes Ramsey would fit right in at Old Trafford, in comments that are sure to make Arsenal fans, who would no doubt love to have him back at the Emirates, sick to their stomach.

Coleman told the Mirror: "If it’s not going to happen for him at Juventus he’s definitely the type of player who can handle playing for Manchester United.

When you play for a club like Manchester United the jersey is much heavier than when you are with a smaller club in the Premier League.

"If you play for a big club you’ve got to handle that extra weight. He certainly has the appetite for that.

"I understand why Aaron went to Juventus. They are a great club and they always have a great chance of winning the League.

"He had been at Arsenal a long time, probably didn’t achieve what he wanted to achieve because Arsenal haven’t achieved what they would have liked in the last 10 years."
