The £98.1m Tottenham windfall that could boost Jose Mourinho's summer transfer plans

Tottenham Hotspur are back in the race for Champions League football again next season under Jose Mourinho.

After a poor start to the season, Spurs now fins themselves just four points adrift of Chelsea in fourth position after a 2-0 win over reigning Champions Manchester City in their last Premier League outing.

Should the Lilywhites manage to close that gap and finish in the top four this season it will serve as a boost to Jose Mourinho who is likely to be looking to add to his playing squad during the summer transfer window.

And the promise of Champions League football would make Spurs a more attractive proposition for any potential targets.

But, even if they don't manage to bridge the gap, Mourinho will still be looking to add players during the summer, after the January arrivals of Gedson Fernandes and Steven Bergwijn.

The Tottenham head coach has hinted that he will be looking to do business during the window.

"I want to try to have an evolution of the team in areas where we cannot do it now," he told Sky Sports this week.

Mourinho is starting to shape his squad, but what outgoing business in the summer could be done in order to free up more funds for the transfer kitty? We've taken a look at Transfermarkt to find out.

Michel Vorm and Jan Vertonghen are both out of contract at Spurs at the end of the season and could leave the club for nothing should they not agree a new deal over the next few months.

Danny Rose and Kyle Walker-Peters both moved away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on temporary deals during the January window, but should the two full-backs complete permanent transfers away from Spurs, the club could be looking at earning £9 million for Walker Peters and a further £18 million for Rose.

Juan Foyth could be another player who may leave the club in the summer, having played just four Premier League games this season. Transfermarkt values the defender at a price of £13.5 million.

Victor Wanyama is another player who could look for a transfer away in the summer. He has made just two league appearances this season and has not been included in the match day squad in the league since September, Spurs could receive a fee of around £10.8 million for the 28-year-old.

Fellow midfielder Eric Dier has struggled to hold down a starting place under Mourinho and could be another player who is moved on at the end of the season. The England international is valued at £27 million.

Erik Lamela has had his season disrupted by injuries, but has found himself in and out of the starting XI since his return to fitness, should Spurs decide to cash in on the Argentinian, they could recoup a £19.8 million fee.

Should all that outgoing business be completed for the suggested fees, it will give Mourinho an extra £98.1 million to spend during the window, which would serve as a massive boost to Tottenham's hopes of landing their targets.

This means that Mourinho's Tottenham squad could look a lot different come the start of the 2020/21 Premier League season whether the team achieve Champions League football or not.
