The 8 players Newcastle United could be without for Chelsea clash amid huge double injury boost

Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce has confirmed that Allan Saint-Maximin is in contention to face Chelsea at St James' Park.

The winger has been missing in recent weeks with a hamstring problem, with his last Premier League appearance coming when Newcastle United beat Southampton 2-1 last month.

However, the Frenchman posted an update on social media yesterday hinting at an imminent return, and Bruce has now confirmed that he is available for the game against Chelsea, with the Magpies boss outlining what he will bring to the side.

“He’s got that absolute pace, that raw pace and power and natural ability to go past somebody so he is one in a flash that can turn a game for you," he said, speaking at his pre-match press conference .

Lampard: There's more to come from Hudson-Odoi

“We’ve seen it many times. When he’s been in the team, the results speak for themselves.

"Allan has trained for two weeks and should be back.

"It's good news for everybody - hopefully he is OK.

Bruce also confirmed that Fabian Schar is also in contention to return from injury, but he will be without Dwight Gayle and Paul Dummett, with the striker facing up to six weeks on the sidelines.

"It’s been a huge disappointment with Dwight (Gayle)," he said.

“From the day I came in he was injured & then the team was doing quite well so he spent a lot of time on bench.

“He was excellent against Wolves. It is a bit of a blow.

Meanwhile, the Magpies will also still be without Javi Manquillo, Jack Colback, Ki Sung-Yeung, DeAndre Yedlin and Yoshinori Muto, who are all still sidelined, while Newcastle will make a late decision over Andy Carroll.
