The Kawhi Leonard Watch rolls on as of midday Wednesday, with the NBA Finals MVP still left unsigned and fans waiting for him to decide if he’s staying in Toronto or going to Los Angeles.
But even when he signs, it doesn’t mean free agency is over yet.
There are still a number of names out there that we’re similarly waiting for (and maybe they’re waiting too, to see which team doesn’t get Leonard). Some of them are significant role players who could help a contender win a ring, and a few others are sleepers who could turn out to be valuable.
Here are a few, in no particular order:
1. DeMarcus Cousins
I’m mystified about why a team hasn’t taken a one-year chance on Boogie. I know there are locker room concerns. But he’s still so good when healthy and might want to prove himself for a long-term deal that he’d be worth the risk.
2. Marcus Morris
A stretch four who can do a little bit of everything? I feel like any team would want that.
3. Danny Green
Seems like he’s waiting on Leonard, but the 6-foot-6 Green could be a 3-and-D asset anywhere he goes despite some up-and-down moments in the Raps’ playoff run.
4. JaMychal Green
He was on our list of sneaky-good sleeper free agents and he’s still out there!
5. Jabari Parker
I know, I know. He isn’t the most consistent and he might be joining his fourth team in three seasons this summer. But he did average 15 ppg and 7.2 rpg with the Wizards. There’s value there if the price is right.
6. Kelly Oubre Jr.
He’s a restricted free agent, but maybe he’s worth the offer sheet? After coming to the Suns, he broke out with 16.9 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 1.4 spg and 1.0 bpg in 40 games with Phoenix.
7. Delon Wright
Another RFA who turned out to be valuable after a trade — he had a great stretch of 26 games with Memphis after the Marc Gasol trade.
8. Rajon Rondo
Who wants Playoff Rondo?
