The 8 best lawn games to play on July 4th

Happy Fourth of July, Internet!

Hopefully, you’re getting to enjoy the holiday outside (I’m keeping my fingers crossed for good weather, wherever you’re located), and besides all the grilling and whatnot, that means there will be lawn games aplenty.

This is a list that doesn’t comprehensively cover EVERY one of them, but a few of the all-time greatest lawn games that you should consider playing at your party, gathering, BBQ, etc. My hope is that I’ve mixed in traditional ones with some that you might not have heard of or tried.

Here’s what I came up with, in no particular order:

1. Cornhole

What’s better than a game you can play while holding a drink in one hand?

2. Spikeball

It’s become a lot more popular over the years, but as far as lawn games go, I think this is a MUST PLAY if you haven’t tried it.

3. Kan Jam

This was one that was relatively new to me when I discovered it at a friend’s house years ago. If you like flinging discs, then adding in the challenge of working with a partner and winning points will add so much more fun to it.

4. Horseshoes

A classic!

5. Bocce Ball

So good even if you’re not on a regulation court.

6. Anything that’s a giant board game

Tic-Tac-Toe, Jenga, Connect 4 … all perfect.

7. Ladder toss

More challenging than it looks. Another one you can play with a drink in hand.

8. Catch

This counts and it’s so underrated. Just throwing a football or baseball around casually beats a lot of other lawn activities.
