The 7 times Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has delivered his 'mate' catchphrase

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has made an instant impact on the Scottish game.

Whether it's his do-or-die football philosophy that birthed the 'Ange Ball' term, or his instant connection with the Parkhead faithful.

Another thing the Australian is clearly fond of is a spiky post-match interview.

And pundits and reporters can tell when they are going to get a cheeky quip or firm response with just one word from the Celtic gaffer.

The "mate" catchphrase has become the calling card of the Celtic Park gaffer and his addresses.

Record Sport takes a look at some of the most bristling responses from the manager so far in his time in Glasgow's east end so far.

When asked the Champions League cash windfall

“I’m not an accountant mate, I’m a football manager. When people start talking to me about finances they miss the essence of what I’m about.

“I’m not interested. I want to win games, I want to win trophies, I want to bring special nights to here. The finances are for other people."

When given a Hearts pop quiz

“I’m still on the same planet mate, I haven’t come from outer space.

"You’d be surprised about how much I know about Hearts.

“They’ve got a strong Aussie connection; Ryan McGowan, Paddy Kisnorbo, I can go back that far so I know Hearts very, very well.

“They’re a big club. They obviously dropped down but have come back up and it’s always a good contest.

‘We’re preparing for it the same way but you can ask me that question every week because it’ll be my first time against every opposition.”

When asked about the Champions League exit 'catastrophe'

"It's pretty strong language mate, I don't know what your version of catastrophic is but it certainly doesn't fit my definition of what happened tonight.

"This is obviously a disappointing night, disappointing we didn't get through, I can't fault the effort of the players, I think they worked their socks off, we controlled the game."

When asked about a 'whirlwind' start to life at Celtic

"I’m all right mate, I don’t run around at all. I just sit down and do what I do.

“I’m enjoying it. I’ve been through these periods before when as a manager you feel like you’re not doing a lot of training, so you can’t get out there and work with the players."

When addressing James McCarthy's critics

“Fair or unfair, James is a big boy and I’m sure he’s had plenty of criticism in his career and it was his first game.

“He will be the first to admit he didn’t have a great one but there were plenty of others alongside him who would also admit the same. I didn’t have a great day at the office, mate.

“We have a responsibility as a whole group to go out there and represent our club and our supporters and those kind of opinions can change pretty quickly. I’m sure James is aware of that.”

After Giorgos Giakoumakis injury blow

“I don’t know what it is mate, I have definitely walked under a ladder. He ( Giorgos Giakoumakis ) did his calf in the warm-up so I have just sent him off to do a scan now.

“He has picked up an injury unfortunately. So we’ll just wait and see.

“I haven’t spoken to him and I only found out about it at half-time when I was looking to make some changes.

“It’s just one of those things. It’s been really unsettled, having players coming in when we have games on.

When asked about Rangers dropping points

"Well, I thought the Premiership race was over, mate, so I'm not looking at the table any more.

"We are just kind of doing out own thing and it's of zero significance for us.

"I think what is more important to us is that we get some belief."
