The 7 places in Wales where Covid rates are still growing

Seven local authorities in Wales have seen an increase in Covid infection rates compared to data from the week prior.

The infection rate across Wales as a whole was 488 cases per 100,000 people based on the seven days up to September 12 - down from 523 the week prior.

WalesOnline has compared Public Health Wales data to see the places in Wales where the virus is spreading the most quickly. We compared the figures released on September 17 with seven days before.

These figures are seven-day rolling totals for new cases adjusted for population (per 100,000 people). It is important to remember that though these figures are a useful guide they are just part of the story. If testing massively increases in one place there is likely to be a rise in confirmed cases. However these figures are still a vital factor in Welsh Government and Public Health Wales decision-making.

It comes as Covid data shows that Neath Port Talbot has the highest infection rate in Wales.

Below are the four areas where Covid have rise by more than 10%. You can read the latest information on all the areas with the highest coronavirus rates in Wales here.

Torfaen

This area is easily the fastest growing area of Wales in terms of Covid cases with a 27% increase in a week.

However with an infection rate of 480 it is still far below Neath Port Talbot which is on 731.

Blaenau Gwent

Blaenau Gwent has seen a near 20% growth in cases but it must be remembered that as the area is very small it only takes a few cases to cause a spike.

Wrexham

Though it is has seen a 12% increase in cases Wrexham, with an infection rate of 189 is almost 100 below the Welsh average.

Anglesey

Though still below the Welsh average Anglesey has seen above a 10% rise in one week.
