The £50m transfer Nuno Espirito Santo can build on at Tottenham and upset Arsenal and Chelsea

Tottenham's search for Jose Mourinho's successor is final over, with Nuno Espirito Santo taking the reins ahead of next season's Premier League campaign.

The Portuguese will be presented with the opportunity to shape his squad over the coming weeks, with his Wolves outfit largely renowned for their defensive security.

Spurs' defence was a concern for Mourinho who regularly changed his players and expressed his desire to add a dominant presence with leadership skills, with Nuno almost certain to add to the department this summer.

Toby Alderweireld has also been linked with a departure from the club, with Jules Kounde said to be one of the top names on the club's shortlist alongside Milan Skriniar and Joachim Andersen.

The Sevilla centre-back would be quite the steal for Spurs if they manage to secure his services, as he generally appears different to the typical central defender.

Still just 22 years-old, the Frenchman has proven to be quite an unorthodox centre-back, largely because of his offensive tendencies and what he does in possession of the ball.

Last season, he scored twice while registering one assist in La Liga, but his attacking contributions stretched beyond goals and assists.

He placed 15th in the division for total progressive passes, with Atletico Madrid's Mario Hermoso being the only fixed centre-back to rank ahead of him in the standings.

In addition to playing through the thirds of the pitch with passes, Kounde is very inclined to carry the ball; he placed 21st in La Liga for progressive carries, and second for centre-backs behind only Clement Lenglet of Barcelona.

Kounde also a keener dribbler than most who perform at the heart of a defence, with no central defender in the Spanish top-flight completing as many as his 32 last season.

The Sevilla man has interesting qualities that could be harvested by Nuno as he gradually shapes his new version of Spurs; he'd present the 47 year-old with more of a platform to play offensive football.

His style of play while at Wolves has been expressed as a concern by many Spurs supporters, but the players at his disposal at Molineux have been labelled as the reason behind his decision to represent quite a cautious brand of football.

If Kounde was added to the Spurs ranks alongside other attacking prospects further forward, Nuno would almost have no reason to opt against restoring elements of the attacking approach that has gradually been lost in N17.

He certainly wouldn't come cheap but given his age and unique skill set, he could be deemed as worthy of the investment.
