The 5 Everton players loaned out by Rafa Benitez for the 2021/22 season and where they have gone

The summer transfer window has officially closed.

Everton completed signings for Demarai Gray, Andros Townsend, Asmir Begovic, Andy Lonergan and Salomon Rondon.

A number of individuals were released by the club during the window, while others have been handed the opportunity to impress elsewhere during the 2021/22 season.

Five Everton players will spend the current campaign on loan, with summaries of each move provided below.

Lewis Gibson - Sheffield Wednesday

A third loan spell in the EFL for the Everton defender.

Gibson has represented Fleetwood Town and Reading in the last two seasons and has now joined League One side Sheffield Wednesday for the 2021/22 campaign.

Nathan Broadhead - Sunderland

Back in League One in the hope of securing regular first-team minutes, striker Nathan Broadhead has sealed a switch to Sunderland.

The 23-year-old spent time on loan at fellow third division side Burton Albion during the 2019/20 season and will now look to test himself at this level once again.

He has already made three first-team appearances for the Black Cats since completing his move.

Broadhead was in impressive form in front of goal for the Everton Under-23s last term, netting 11 goals in 18 Premier League 2 matches.

Joao Virginia - Sporting Lisbon

The Everton goalkeeper will spend the season with the Portuguese champions, who have included an option to buy the 21-year-old permanently next summer.

Virginia was previously loaned out by the Blues to Reading in the 2019/20 season, but was recalled in January due to a lack of playing time.

Moise Kean - Juventus

Moise Kean has left Everton with Juventus agreeing a two-year loan deal with an obligation to buy the striker.

The Italian striker has been linked with an exit from the club for much of the window, and it is now highly unlikely Kean will be seen again in an Everton shirt.

Everton will receive a total of €7million (£6m) in loan fees: €3million (£2.6m) for the 2021/2022 season and €4million (£3.4m) for the 2022/2023 campaign.

A Juventus statement added: "The agreed consideration for the definitive acquisition is €28 million (£24.1m), payable in three years.

“Furthermore, a maximum of €3million(£2.6m) of cumulative bonuses are envisaged upon achievement of further sporting performance objectives."

Niels Nkounkou - Standard Liege

The 20-year-old left-back has joined Belgian side Standard Liege for the current campaign.

Nkounkou received offers from sides in the Championship but a temporary move to Liege was the most appealing and his transfer has been finalised.

Liege are not paying a loan fee to secure Nkounkou for the season. The agreement also does not include any option for the Jupiler League side to buy Nkounkou next summer.
