Let’s look at some of the best moments from the mic’d up footage in Super Bowl LIII, including video from Showtime’s “Inside the NFL” and from NFL Networks’ “Mic’d Up.”
Here’s what the players and coaches were saying on the sidelines and the field during the New England Patriots’ 13-3 win over the Los Angeles Rams.
5. “40-yarder and the game’s over.”
Tom Brady approached Bill Belichick on the team’s final scoring drive. The Patriots were facing fourth-and-inches. Brady was one of many suggesting that the Patriots kick a field goal, and take a 10-point lead. Belichick clearly had a few people speaking to him, including whoever was making suggestions through the headset. They went with a field goal attempt, which Stephen Gostkowski completed.
4. Bill Belichick was ready to Party
After the game, Rob Gronkowski said he was pumped to party after the game. Belichick said that even he would partake in the fiesta after the monumental win.
3. “There’s a wind factor.”
Only Belichick.
The Patriots coach began fussing with an official about whether the roof would be close in time for kickoff at Mercedes Benz Stadium. The official explained that the league was trying to time the kickoff with the closing of the roof — Belichick had no time for that focus on aesthetics. He wanted to know whether to roof would be opened or closed, so that he could gauge the wind.
2. “We’re Champions, man!”
Belichick does smile with some regularity, contrary to public belief. But he doesn’t look elated very often. That’s how he looked as the game came to close in Atlanta, with the coach hugging his players and coaches to celebrate his sixth Super Bowl win in 18 seasons as the Patriots head coach.
1. “You’re what’s right about coaching.”
Before the game, Rams coach Sean McVay approached Belichick to give him a compliment. McVay praised Belichick’s ability to have an ever-shifting identity, as Belichick changes his team’s scheme and identity with regularity. Belichick praised McVay, without saying much.
McVay told Belichick: “You’re what’s right about coaching.”
