The 5 best destinations for Robert Lewandowski with a possible Bayern Munich break-up looming

In the grand history of soccer, few have been as gifted at putting the ball into the back of the net as Robert Lewandowski. In 14 seasons between different clubs in Poland and Germany, the striker has potted 341 back-netters. To get to such a high mark, no one has ever enjoyed seven consecutive 40-goal campaigns — until Lewandowski.

And at only the age of 34 come the start of the next domestic season, Lewandowski has plenty of goals left to score. The question is: Will they come in his (still) current Bayern Munich uniform?

In the undercurrents, the Polish star has said he wants a new challenge outside of Bayern’s constraints. In other words, he is by no means “unhappy” but will move mountains to get what he wants as one of the best players in the world. This is in direct contrast to the sentiments of Bayern’s lead executive, Oliver Kahn, who, after a disappointing Champions League ouster, was quite emphatic that his Polish talisman will still be wearing Bayern red come August.

Suffice to say; I’ve seen this movie before. No matter the cost, no matter the headache: A player of Lewandowski’s caliber almost always gets what they want. Superstars in jerseys dictate the terms, not former stars (no disrespect, Mr. Kahn!) in suits.

As Bayern and most of the rest of the major soccer world moves to the summer and the potential transfer market, here are the five best potential destinations for one of the world’s truly elite players.
