San Francisco 49er fans should feel confident heading into Super Bowl 54 in Miami after it was announced the team will wear white jerseys against the Kansas City Chiefs on Feb. 2, according to NFL.com.
Why?
Because teams wearing white jerseys have won 13 of the last 15 Super Bowls. The Niners, who will wear white jerseys with gold pants, are 2-0 in Super Bowls with that combination. They defeated the Bengals (Super Bowl 14) and Broncos (Super Bowl 24) with the white and gold uniform scheme.
The Chiefs are the designated home team for this year's Super Bowl, which means they'll wear dark jerseys.
According to The Athletic, the Niners needed an exception to wear all-white uniforms (jerseys and pants) for their Week 17 game against the Seahawks, and that Niners cornerback Richard Sherman said they'll push for an exception against the Chiefs.
The Niners are 5-1 all-time in Super Bowls, with the lone loss coming in 2013 against the Ray Lewis-led Baltimore Ravens. The Chiefs are playing in their first Super Bowl in 50 years. They won Super Bowl 4 against the Minnesota Vikings in 1970.
