The 48 places where it is now illegal to go around to someone's house

A total of 48 places in England now have local lockdown rules in place that prevent people meeting at someone else's house.

The rules have been imposed across parts of the nation in a bid to cut virus rates.

It comes after the government revealed that Covid-19 was spreading rapidly in some areas of the country.

People can be fined £200 if they don't comply, the Mirror Online reports.

The restrictions mean that people in these areas cannot meet in another private dwelling - including a houseboat, as well as a garden, yard, passage, stairs or outhouse.

In addition, they cannot take part in a gathering that is outside their area.

There are some exemptions, such as if you all live in the same household or "bubble" - either a support bubble, or for childcare.

Other exemptions include:

  • For work, education, training or childcare
  • Giving emergency assistance, avoiding injury or illness or escaping a risk of harm
  • Allowing children of separated parents to split time between both their houses.
  • Attending a birth at the mother's request
  • Visiting a close family member or friend you reasonably believe is dying
  • Fulfilling a legal obligation
  • Giving care or assistance to a vulnerable person
  • Facilitating a house move

This is not a complete guide, as it may be your area has things that are against advice but not against the law.

In addition, today, Thursday, October 1, the government has announced it will be illegal to meet indoors in places such as pubs from Saturday, October 3 in the Liverpool city region, Warrington, Hartlepool and Middlesbrough.

However, here - for now - are all 48 areas of England where it is illegal to meet people you don't live with in a private dwelling.

In a statement, Matt Hancock told the Commons today: “Earlier this week, we brought in further measures in the north-east. However, in parts of Teesside and the north-west of England cases continue to rise fast.

“In Liverpool, the number of cases is 268 per 100,000 population, so together we need to act. Working with council leaders and the mayors, I’m today extending these measures that have been in the north-east since the start of this week to the Liverpool city region, Warrington, Hartlepool and Middlesbrough.

“We will provide £7 million to local authorities in these areas to support them with their vital work.”
