The 41 Bristol neighbourhoods with the most coronavirus cases

More than 40 neighbourhoods in the Bristol area have recorded double figures for coronavirus tests in recent days, latest figures show

Public Health England data shows 41 neighbourhoods in the Bristol area recorded more than 10 covid-19 cases between October 10 and October 17.

That is a rise of five neighbourhoods in the space of two days and more than double what it was at the beginning of the month.

In comparison, a data set earlier in the month showed 16 neighbourhoods recorded double figures for cases between October 3 and October 9.

Bristol City Centre continues to be the area to have recorded the most positive Covid-19 test results, with 149 positive tests, followed by Stoke Bishop, which had 124.

Other areas to have seen higher infection rates include Cotham (49), Hotwells (26), Clifton East (40) and Frenchay & Great Stoke (45).

This means that, in Bristol, neighbourhoods with high student populations continue to have the most positive tests.

What about the other areas?

Between October 10 and October 17, a total of 1,088 coronavirus cases were recorded in the city of Bristol.

In comparison, 316 positive tests were recorded in South Gloucestershire, 222 in Bath and North East Somerset and 136 in North Somerset.

The vast majority of neighbourhoods in Bristol and South Gloucestershire had at least three cases.

In Bristol, all the inner-city neighbourhoods had at least three cases but, in South Gloucestershire, there were three exceptions - Yate West, Downend North and Staple Hill North - which had fewer than three cases.

Only one area in North Somerset had double figures for cases in the latest week - Portishead Central (12).

Where is the data coming from?

You can see the latest national data on the government's website.

The map displays weekly data, which are updated everyday.

The data can be viewed by local authority but also by smaller sections called 'Middle Super Output Areas'.

The map highlights which areas of the nation have three or more confirmed cases of the virus and colour co-coordinates the areas by how many cases they have.
