The 400 rare Peter Rabbit 50p coins which are being circulated across the UK

Some 400 rare 50p coins have gone into circulation - and if you spot one you could be in for a small profit.

The coins were not intended for general circulation but a group has decided to distribute the Peter Rabbit coin across the country, Liverpool Echo reports.

The non-released 2019 coins are available to buy from the Royal Mint for £10, with the Royal Mint stating: "The Peter Rabbit 2019 coin is a commemorative only coin. These will not be entering general circulation."

Videos released by coin collecting website  The Great British Coin Hunt claim ten have been released into circulation in South West.

Kellie from the Great British Coin Hunt team, said: "We are circulating the 2019 Peter Rabbit. We're hoping we're going to get 40 volunteers to help us around the country."

It started when 'The Great British Coin Hunt' vowed to shake things up by putting 400 of the previously packaged coins into circulation, therefore making it the rarest 50p due to the low quantity figure.

The 400 coins are currently being distributed at various locations all over the UK, this is said to be completed by the end of the month.

Members of the public are urged to keep an eye out in their change and share their story if willing.
