The 40% sell on clause that puts Newcastle United in with a shout of bringing back Adam Armstrong

Newcastle United are set to be kept firmly in the loop when it comes to Adam Armstrong's future.

The Sky Bet Championship hot-shot has been linked with a £20million summer exit from Ewood Park this summer after netting 29 goals for Blackburn Rovers last season.

Both Southampton and West Ham United have also been credited with interest with David Moyes especially keen on the Geordie centre-forward.

The Daily Express are now reporting Newcastle's interest, however, Armstrong's future was always being monitored by the Magpies.

Some club staff never felt it was a good idea to sell Armstrong for £1.7million back in 2018, hence the unusual sell on clause inserted to the deal three years ago.

Whether Armstrong returned to Tyneside or is sold on elsewhere a 40% sell on fee will be due to hit Toon coffers anyway.

It means that Newcastle could enforce a big reduction on Armstrong's price tag too this summer.

With Armstrong a boyhood fan of the club and keen to one day return, it also gives Newcastle a big advantage over Premier League rivals.

Newcastle are yet to announce their decision on Andy Carroll but the striker's exit could make space for another striker.
