The clock is ticking for Mauricio Pochettino to add to his Tottenham squad before the transfer deadline on Thursday, August 8.
Spurs have already signed Tanguy Ndombele in a club record move from Lyon, with Jack Clarke also joining the Lilywhites from Championship side Leeds United.
Paulo Dybala, Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon have also been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and everyone connected with the club will be hoping they can get the deals over the line sooner rather than later.
As well as new players coming in at Spurs, Pochettino will also be busy trying to tie some of the current squad down to new contracts.
Harry Winks and Ben Davies have so far put pen-to-paper on new terms in N17 and more could follow shortly.
Well, three key players will actually be free to leave the club for absolutely nothing next summer as it stands at present.
Here we take a look at the players in question.
Christian Eriksen
The Danish international stated in June that he would like to move on from the club in the summer for a new challenge elsewhere.
However, that looks unlikely to happen at present with the transfer deadline getting ever closer.
Real Madrid were the favourites to sign the midfielder but it appears that they are no longer interested in the player as they look at other targets.
Despite the comments from the player about a Spurs exit earlier in the summer, he could potentially perform a U-turn and sign a new contract at the club.
A decision certainly needs to be made sooner rather than later as Spurs simply cannot afford to lose him for nothing at the end of this season.
Toby Alderweireld
Spurs are in a similar situation when it comes to Belgian defender Alderweireld at present.
The club extended the player's existing deal at the start of the year by a further 12 months, thus activating a £25m release clause in his contract that was active until two weeks before the transfer deadline.
Thankfully that deadline has now passed but the player's future still remains up in the air.
If he isn't sold this window and his contract situation still remains the same come January, he will be able to talk to foreign clubs about a pre-contract agreement for the 2020/21 season.
Just like the situation with Eriksen, it's one that needs sorting rather soon.
Jan Vertonghen
The third and final player in the last year of his Spurs contract is Vertonghen.
The Belgian international has been outstanding since his move from Ajax and the club won't want to lose him as he still has so much to offer.
With the club extending the player's contract by one year back in December, the same will more than likely happen again unless the defender sees his future elsewhere.
