The four left-back options available to Mikel Arteta in the final days of the transfer window

As the transfer window comes to a close Arsenal remain in the market for a reserve left-back.

Kieran Tierney is the clear first choice at the back for Mikel Arteta's side but with a congested fixture list from now until the end of the season, a reserve option is being looked at to help the share load.

The importance of signing a left-back is even more essential after Ainsley Maitland-Niles, a central midfielder by trade who has filled in at left-back this season, looks set to join either Southampton or West Brom on loan.

"With the departure of Kola, we are a little bit short with left-footed full-backs at the moment," said Arteta last week.

"We know we can use Ainsley there, we can use Bukayo there and we can use Cedric – who has played in that position – so we have some options.

"A natural option for Kieran? Obviously, we don’t. But we can adapt.

"That means that the option is open and we will look to see what is available."

football.london takes a look at the potential left-back options for Arsenal this month and who they could decide to bring to Emirates Stadium.

Jordan Amavi

26-year-old Amavi is available on a free transfer this summer and the Marseille defender has been heavily linked with a move away from France.

Napoli and Crystal Palace have both been linked with the former Aston Villa defender who has experience of playing in the Premier League.

Amavi, who has been a consistent performer for Marseille this season, was previously linked with Arsenal when Arsene Wenger was in charge before joining Villa in 2015.

Cedric Soares

Perhaps the most obvious option right now is closer to home than Arteta realises.

Portuguese right-back Cedric has filled in on the left-hand side on several occasions this season and impressed against his former club Southampton on Tuesday night.

He is an astute crosser of the ball but the Gunners will need him as deputy for Hector Bellerin at right-back too, which makes it all the more likely that Arteta will sign an emergency left-back this month.

Ryan Bertrand

Arsenal are interested in Ryan Bertrand and have made enquiries to sign the Southampton defender, football.london understands.

Bertrand, 31, has made over 19 appearances for England and his contract expires in the summer.

He said in a r ecent interview with Hampshire Live that his future lies at St Mary's despite not putting pen-to-paper on a new deal yet.

The defender has been a key figure for Southampton in their impressive Premier League campaign so far, but could be tempted by a final move back to London with the Gunners.

Josh Doig

The 18-year-old Hibernian fullback has been linked with Arsenal in recent days.

Doig has been touted as a potential understudy to his compatriot Kieran Tierney, although a summer move appears more likely at this point.

Arsenal already have a good relationship with Hibs following the sale of Matt Macey this month, with Doig making 19 appearances this season.
