The £34m windfall Tottenham can earn as Mauricio Pochettino responds to Dele Alli transfer talk

Talk of Dele Alli leaving Tottenham is beginning to ramp up amid Mauricio Pochettino's appointment at Paris Saint-Germain.

It's reported former Spurs boss Pochettino wants to take the out-of-favour Alli to the French capital, offering the midfielder a fresh start amid his apparent rocky relationship with Jose Mourinho.

The Tottenham boss has maintained there are no problems between the two, but Alli has seen little action this season, only making four Premier League appearances and starting just once.

That could well tempt Alli into a move during this window and Pochettino, recently appointed at PSG, is the midfielder's number one fan.

And he didn't exactly put the talk to bed in his opening PSG press conference. When asked about a possible deal, he responded: "It's still in our heart and we love Tottenham, and I think it's a relationship that is never going to stop. Always we are going to think (about the club).

"But I think now it's time for us to be focused 200% on Paris Saint-Germain and of course the situation like you are asking me, to be honest, we are not talking about that, because we haven't had time since the second of January, when we came to Paris.

"It has been a crazy period for us, trying to adapt to a new club - a lot of meetings, training sessions and to prepare for the game tomorrow," he added.

"That is the principle objective - to win tomorrow and perform in the way that we want.

"There are a lot of things that we have done but I think we will have time to talk (about transfers) in the future.

"Like I said before, this is one of my first press conferences and, for sure, we are going to have time.

"But any big player in the world, I think, in Paris Saint-Germain, always is welcome."

Tottenham are said to be against the idea of a sale this month, but if a deal is to be struck, how much money could Tottenham earn?

Spurs bought Alli for an initial fee of £5million, but there were add-ons included that have seen the North London club pay further sums to MK Dons, such as a set amount of international appearances.

And MK Dons chief Andrew Cullen has confirmed there is also a sell-on fee in Alli's deal, meaning Spurs would not get the full transfer fee.

"I'm often asked about the sell-on on Dele Alli if he were to leave Spurs," he told the MK Citizen. "I cannot tell you because if I did, that sell-on could be compromised so it has to remain confidential."

There has been talk Alli could leave on a loan deal, but it seems Tottenham are not keen on that idea, nor the idea of a sale during this window, for that matter.

But if PSG or another club pursued a permanent deal, Tottenham might be tempted by a potentially sizeable windfall with Transfermarkt valuing Alli at £34.2million.

Assuming PSG, or indeed any other suitor, paid that amount and going off the initial fee alone, that would mean Spurs could make a profit of around £29million minus the add-ons already paid and the sell-on clause.

There is no telling what the sell-on fee is, but if it is 10%, it would bag MK Dons £34.42million if PSG were to pay the amount Alli is valued at, or £1.71million if the clause was set at 5%, for example.

Even with that, Spurs could be set for a sizeable payday and one that could be worthwhile for Jose Mourinho, particularly given he does not currently consider Alli to be a significant part of his plans.
