Forget the Eiffel Tower and the Tower of London – Europe’s most underrated tourist attractions have been revealed.
The David Hasselhoff Museum in Berlin, a shrine dedicated to the Baywatch star, was named the most overlooked tourist attraction by Trainline.
Amsterdam’s Floating Cat Sanctuary came in second place. The attraction is a refuge for the Dutch capital’s stray and abandoned cats.
Brussels’ Mini Europe, Stockholm’s Underground Art Gallery and Prague’s Museum of Alchemists and Magicians rounded off the top five of overlooked attractions, which were chosen by comedian Danny Wallace.
Research commissioned by the train booking site found that more than a quarter of UK holidaymakers wanted to escape crowded tourist attractions when abroad.
More of Europe’s off-the-beaten-path attractions include the Museum of Broken Relationships in Zagreb, Croatia; the smallest restaurant in the world in Vacone, Italy; and the singing drain pipes in Dresden, Germany.
“A lifelong fascination of the unusual, unfamiliar and obscure experiences the world has to offer means that I’ve spent the last decade writing about some of the most incredible places and people I’ve met on my travels – often on long train journeys through the breathtaking landscapes of Europe,” said Danny Wallace.
“Teaming up with Trainline to celebrate Europe’s most overlooked tourist attractions gives me the chance to take the scenic route as we celebrate those amazing places that exist off the beaten track.”
