The 3 ways Frank Lampard could solve his latest N'Golo Kante injury problem at Chelsea

N'Golo Kante suffered another injury set-back this weekend when the Chelsea star pulled out of France's match with Iceland.

The 28-year-old was named in the starting XI for the game, put felt a groin issue during the warm up and was pulled out of the team just before the start.

"He felt a pain in the adductor [groin] muscle,’ said the France boss after the match. ‘He had a feeling where he did not feel comfortable to play," France head coach Didier Deschamps said.

"I made the decision [to pull him from the squad], because maybe it could get even worse. I knew Moussa [Sissoko] would be ready.

"I do not think it’s too serious for NG [Kante], but I do not have an answer tonight."

The French have one more match this week, against Turkey, before Kante will return for Chelsea's busy schedule once again.

The Blues face Newcastle United before a huge Champions League clash at Ajax in Amsterdam.

Even though the injury is not too serious, it means Lampard might have be careful with his star man, so what are the different formations and ways that Lampard can rest Kante.

4-2-3-1

With the injuries to Callum Hudson-Odoi and Willian now subsiding, Lampard's preferred formation can start to be used to some effect.

In the win over Southampton, the Blues boss brought back the 4-2-3-1, with Mason Mount playing just behind Tammy Abraham and Hudson-Odoi and Willian on either flank.

It allowed Jorginho and Kante to play together in the middle of the park, with the Blues having decent balance throughout the team.

If Kante is unavailable for the Newcastle game, then it could be a straight swap with Mateo Kovacic, with the Croatian looking to fill the Frenchman's boots in the position.

4-3-3

Another way that Lampard has set up his side has been the 4-3-3, similar to the way that Maurizio Sarri would play.

With Kante on the right of the three, it has been either Ross Barkley or Kovacic on the left, but that could change if Kante is out.

As more forwards are available, then it could mean that Mount drops into a slightly deeper position off the left and look to create from there.

That would mean Jorginho plays in the centre and either Kovacic or Barkley on the right of the three.

3-4-3

Lampard sprung a surprise against Wolverhampton Wanderers when he played three at the back, something he has repeated a couple of times afterwards.

The formation gives the Blues more of a structure defensively, and the three at the back could be the way to go if he doesn't have Kante at his disposal.

It could mean Kovacic comes into the centre of midfield, with Jorginho keeping his place with the Croation.

There would be more balance to the side, and the opportunity to allow the front three from being more creative.
