The 3 things Marcelo Bielsa and Leeds did to cause Arsenal problems in FA Cup tie

Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has explained how the Whites caused problems for Arsenal in the FA Cup third round tie at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal came through the tie thanks to a second half strike from Reiss Nelson, with the Gunners putting in a much-improved second half display against the Championship leaders.

But Leeds were dominant in the first half at the Emirates Stadium, with Patrick Bamford hitting the crossbar and Arsenal goalkeeper Emi Martinez forced into a number of saves as the Whites had 15 attempts on goal during the opening 45 minutes.

And Leeds boss Bielsa outlined how his side caused Arsenal problems, explaining the three things that were key to their approach in the first half in north London.

Mikel Arteta on Arsenal's January transfer plans

"The first half was what we wished," he said, speaking in his post-match press conference.

"We did three important things. We pressed well with their playing out. We made the first pass comfortable and easy for our defenders to anticipate, and in this way, we avoided their striker being involved in the play.

“When we recovered the ball quickly in the opponents' half, we were able to combined with fast passes.

"That happened in the first half and we didn’t do it in the second. We thought we were in a good condition to repeat what we did in the first half, but it wasn't like that.”
