THREE Scottish fish and chip shops are in the running to be named the best in the UK at the 2026 National Fish and Chip Awards.
Andrew Crook, president of the National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF), which oversees the awards, said that they are "incredibly proud to present these fantastic fish and chip shops."
He added that frying is a "real art" and that "knowing absolutely everything about the product is the key to serving delicious chips consistently all year through."
Andrew said the judges are going to have a "tough job cutting the list down", with all entrants operating at "outstanding levels".
Oliver Boutwood, director at Isle of Ely Produce, the sponsor of the Field To Frier category, said: “We are thrilled to educate fish and chip shops across the UK on how to choose, store, fry and finally serve the perfect chip.
"Our Field to Frier top five have all proved their knowledge thus far, and we wish them luck in the next round”.
The current chippy holding the title of the UK's best is the Redcloak Fish Bar in Stonehaven.

These are the three Scottish fish and chip shops that are in the running for the title of the UK's best at the 2026 National Fish and Chip Awards.
- Garioch Fish Bar, Inverurie
- Lows Traditional Fish & Chips (Berryden), Aberdeen
- The Fish Works, Largs

The Fish Works in Largs may be a familiar establishment to some of you fish and chip enthusiasts, with it regularly featuring as a finalist at these awards and previously being named winner of the Takeaway category in 2024.
Other chippies across the UK were named finalists, with Linfords Traditional Fish and Chips in Lincolnshire and Trenchers Spanish City in Whitley Bay also being in the running.
The 2026 National Fish and Chip Awards will take place on February 25 at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge, London.
