The 3 Aston Villa players Dean Smith will be without for visit of Tottenham and Jose Mourinho

Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa meet for the first time this season in the final Premier League game before the international break.

The two teams were scheduled to meet in January, but a coronavirus outbreak at the Villa training ground meant the fixture had to be postponed and with neither side in the FA Cup quarter-final, the game takes place this evening.

It's an important game for both Dean Smith and Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho as the battle for the European places is heating up with each passing week.

Speaking of the Villa manager, he delivered an injury update on Jack Grealish during his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon.

Jose Mourinho's angry response to being asked if Tottenham lack leaders

"I know Aston Villa fans will be fretting that it's a long-term injury," Smith told reporters. "It's not a long-term injury as I've said. It's always been one where we've been guided by Jack who's been suffering the pain.

"I can 99.9 per cent say he'll be definitely back for Fulham if he doesn't make Sunday.

"It's just been one of those things where we've had to pull him out for a number of games."

Grealish has been out of action since sustaining a shin problem in training a month ago, causing him to miss Villa's last five games in succession and will not make his return against Tottenham.

This has been revealed by the Birmingham Mail as Smith must once again devise a plan without his key player and captain for the visit of a wounded Spurs side.

The attacking midfielder's absence is certainly a major blow for Villa, but he's not the only player Smith will be without for the visit of Mourinho's side.

As revealed by the club's website, altogether, there are three senior Aston Villa players who will miss this evening's Premier League meeting with the Spurs at Villa Park.

This list includes Kortney Hause (ankle) and Wesley (knee) who have both been training but are likely to build up their fitness with a friendly over the international break, while Bertrand Traore is expected to be in the squad.
