Many Scots who have contracted coronavirus have said they are struggling to feel a bit more normal months on from their original diagnosis.
Even those who didn't suffer badly from the virus at the time are now experiencing difficult long-term symptoms.
According to the NHS, around 60,000 people right now in the UK are thought to be suffering from long Covid, according to Leicester Live.
On the list, there are over 28 possible symptoms and everyone is different when it comes to the severity of them or if they suffer from multiple at the one time.
The most commonly reported symptoms, according to the NHS Covid recovery site are:
- Breathlessness
- Cough
- Chest tightness
- Chest pain
- Palpitations
- Fatigue
- Fever
- Pain
- Cognitive impairment (‘brain fog’, loss of concentration or memory issues)
- Headache
- Sleep disturbance
- Pins and needles or numbness
- Dizziness
- Delirium (in older people)
- Abdominal pain
- Nausea
- Diarrhoea
- Anorexia and reduced appetite (in older people)
- Weight loss
- Joint pain
- Muscle pain
- Symptoms of depression
- Symptoms of anxiety
- Tinnitus
- Earache
- Sore throat
- Loss of taste and/or smell
- Skin rashes
When to seek help
If it has been more than four weeks after you had Covid-19, but you are still suffering with any of the symptoms above, you can contact your GP and ask about long Covid to get an initial consultation.
As everyone is affected differently, a number of tests could be suggested to find out more about your symptoms such as blood tests, checking blood pressure and a chest X-ray.
Last year, NHS England announced specialist post-Covid clinics at sites across the country including University Hospitals Leicester NHS Trust and Provider Company Ltd arm of the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Alliance.
Referrals to the specialist clinics are made based on an individual's ongoing symptoms and the impact on their life.
