The 26 areas in England where coronavirus infection rates are rising

Coronavirus cases are on the rise in 26 areas of England, the latest Government data shows.

The latest Public Health England (PHE) figures show that Tameside and North West Leicestershire both recorded 57 more cases than the previous week - the sharpest increases compared to all other areas in the country.

There were 477 new infections recorded in Tameside in the week ending February 16 and 254 in the North West Leicestershire.

Herefordshire recorded the third highest increase in England with 194 new cases - an increase of 51 compared to the previous week.

Another borough of Greater Manchester has also seen infection rates moving in the wrong direction.

In Bury, there were 413 cases recorded in the week ending February 16 - eight more than the previous 7 days.

Yet infection rates are falling in 285 local authorities in England, while figures have stayed the same in the remaining four.
