Arsenal have been linked with a big-money move for Real Sociedad star Alexander Isak.
Isak performed excellently for Real Sociedad this season as they qualified for Europa League with a fifth-place finish in La Liga, while also winning last season's Copa del Rey after the final was played a year late.
The 21-year-old helped La Real achieve that impressive season with 17 goals and two assists across all competitions, and that followed nine goals in his debut season in Spain.
But since making the move to the Basque Country on a deal worth just £5.85million from Borussia Dortmund, his market value has sky-rocketed to the point where a deal worth £60million is being discussed.
That's the value of Isak's release clause, and the striker does warrant it, still only 21 and looking like of the biggest up and coming talents in La Liga.
And he will be looking to take his talent to the international stage this summer as he competes in Euro 2020 with Sweden, likely leading the line in the absence of the injured Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Whether he fills those boots or not this summer, it's reported Arsenal and technical director Edu are said to be interested in signing Isak, despite his rather large release clause.
But there is a significant problem - Dortmund hold a buy-back clause worth only £25.8million in Isak's contract, and the Bundesliga club could well move to scupper any possible deal.
Even if Dortmund don't want Isak, which is not necessarily true given the uncertainty over Erling Haaland's future, it would make very good business sense for them to buy him back at less than half of his release clause and sell him at a significant profit.
Isak has previously said that Dortmund are 'in (his) past', but if Dortmund opt to trigger the buy-back clause, there is little he could do to prevent the Bundesliga club from taking ownership of his contract.
Though, that doesn't necessarily mean Arsenal would miss out on a deal.
If Dortmund did only want to buy back Isak to sell, he could still be made available for a similar fee to now, only the extra £35million would end up in the hands of Dortmund rather than Real Sociedad's.
