The 24-hour Cristiano Ronaldo whirlwind as Man Utd beat Man City to land transfer

Despite the summer transfer window being open for 11 weeks, the Cristiano Ronaldo saga came out of nowhere less seven days before the deadline on August 31, and the future of the five-time Ballon D'or winner has taken twists and turns during a whirlwind 24-hours.

It was recently discovered that Ronaldo's future may be away from Turin, and Manchester United have taken full advantage and re-signed their former star.

A deal looked set to be completed with Manchester City, but then United stepped in as the potential transfer took another turn, and the forward has now made a sensational homecoming

The situation has progressed and developed every hour, but now it's confirmed that Ronaldo will be playing at Old Trafford this season.

Thursday 26, 2pm - News emerged that City had agreed a deal with Ronaldo: Ronaldo reportedly agreed on personal terms with Manchester City ahead of a transfer and long-awaited return to the Premier League.

Ronaldo's agent Jorge Mendes flew into Turin on Thursday to secure his client's Juventus exit and according to multiple sources, he was ready to join the Citizens following a conversation with manager Pep Guardiola.

Thursday 26, 4pm - Ronaldo and Guardiola agree City transfer terms: Cristiano Ronaldo was reportedly on the brink of a remarkable return to the Premier League, with Manchester City and Juventus negotiating a fee for the Portuguese superstar.

Ronaldo was said to have agreed to a contract worth over £250,000 a week at the Etihad Stadium, with The Independent reporting that he had discussed his role in the team with Pep Guardiola.

Thursday 26, 5pm - Mendes arrived in Paris: Ronaldo's agent, Jorge Mendes, was reportedly in Paris for talks with Paris Saint-Germain regarding his client.

Earlier reports suggested that the 36-year-old had 'agreed terms' with Manchester City but a huge plot twist was on the cards as PSG looked to potentially replace Kylian Mbappe following Real Madrid's second bid.

Thursday 26, 7pm - PSG President shut down Ronaldo links: Paris Saint-Germain President Al-Khelaifi shut down talks of signing Cristiano Ronaldo.

He told beIN Sports, via Get French Football News : "It is not even a discussion."

Friday 27, 6am - Ronaldo to City a 'done deal': It appeared as though Man City had rebounded from their Harry Kane rejection quickly - as they stood on the brink of one of the summer's most shocking deals.

City were the only team interested in bringing Ronaldo back to the Premier League and the Portuguese star was said to be desperate for an escape route from Juventus.

Friday 27, 1pm - Allegri confirmed Ronaldo exit: Allegri said: "Cristiano told me that he has no intention of continuing at Juventus.

"This is why he will not be called up tomorrow, he did not train yesterday and now we can talk about [the] Empoli [game]. That is most important."

"I am absolutely not disappointed. [Ronaldo] has made his choice."

Friday 27, 1:30pm - Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's hint to Ronaldo: "We've always had a good communication. Bruno's been talking to him as well and he knows what we feel about him. And if he was ever gonna move away from Juventus he knows we're here."

Friday 27, 2pm - Glazers eye Ronaldo move: Manchester United owners the Glazer family decided to attempt to hijack Cristiano Ronaldo's transfer to Man City.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the Americans believed bringing Ronaldo home would go some way to mending their relationship with fans, which was damaged following the European Super League debacle.

Friday 27, 2:30pm - United confident on Ronaldo deal: Man Utd grew in confidence of re-signing Cristiano Ronaldo.

The forward has made it known that he wants to leave Juventus and had interest from Man City but according to TalkSport, the Red Devils believed they could swoop in and seal a sensational return for Ronaldo, 12 years after he left Old Trafford.

Friday 27, 2:45pm - Sir Alex Ferguson speaks to Ronaldo: The legendary United manager reportedly reached out to Ronaldo on Friday morning to persuade his former star not to join City.

Friday 27, 3pm - City withdrew their interest in Ronaldo: Man City confirmed that their move to sign Cristiano Ronaldo has collapsed and they withdrew their interest just nine hours after it was presumed a 'done deal'.

Rivals Man Utd stood firm favourites to sign the Portuguese star.

Friday 27, 4pm - Ronaldo to United a 'done deal': United formally offered the €25million Juventus were asking for to bring Ronaldo back to Old Trafford and the forward opened advanced talks with his former club.

This one is certainly moving quickly after the 36-year-old's ex-United teammates reportedly got in touch with him in the early hours of this morning to convince him of a return.

Friday 27, 4:30pm - Ronaldo offered two-year contract by United: Reports emerge that Ronaldo has been offered and accepted a contract proposal, with an announcement expected confirming his return to United.

Friday 27, 4:50pm - United announce a deal has been agreed: United agree deal for the return of Cristiano Ronaldo and make a public announcement.
