The value of Chelsea's squad could plummet by £221million should the season not be completed, according to data published by the International Centre for Sports Studies Football Observatory (CIES).
According to the figures released this morning, taking in Europe's five big leagues, Manchester City would lose the most with Frank Lampard's squad facing the fourth biggest fall in the Premier League and ninth across Europe.
CIES valued Chelsea's squad at just over €1billion (£884million) and their algorithm predicts a 24.9% fall to €757million (£663million).
The numbers take into account a host of metrics, including expiring contracts and the age of players.
Such a significant fall at Chelsea can be explained by having a number of senior squad members, including Willian, Pedro and Olivier Giroud, out of contract at the end of June.
There remains a possibility that players out of contract this summer will be given short extensions for the campaign to be completed, although no significant decisions have yet been made by the Premier League or at Chelsea.
"The greatest loss in relative terms concerns ageing footballers with short-term contracts who played fewer matches during the current season than in the previous one," CIES explained.
Liverpool and Manchester United are also in the top 10, along with Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Internazionale, Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Tottenham Hotspur complete the list with their squad evaluation falling from €787million (£689million) to €560million (£490million), which is more significant than both Chelsea and Liverpool in terms of percentage (28.8).
Marseille would see the biggest percentage decrease across Europe (37.9%) with Sheffield United's value falling by the most significant margin in the Premier League (33.2%).
