What’s happening on the red carpet? Well, Charli XCX is looking very glamorous.

What else can we expect from tonight? According to executive producer Larry Klein, in a mere 22 minutes we’re going to get something “huge and outrageous”.
“Trust me. Don’t come into the show at 8.10pm. Don’t do that. You better start at 8 pm, ‘cause I ain’t holdin’ nothin’ back,” he told ABC News. “And it’s gonna go for three hours and end with a big ‘wow.’”
So there you go - wows at either end. And a few in the middle too, hopefully.
Klein also explained why he’s booked Pitbull to host the awards again. “He brings energy like you can’t imagine, and I want people to understand that when you see Pit on stage with his energy, please don’t think he’s doing that for television. I hang out with Pit a lot. He’s one of my best friends. We’re at a restaurant, he has that same energy; we’re driving in a car, he has that same energy.”
Sounds quite hard work if you ask me.
It's the American music awards!
We’re about to watch the AMAs, which start at 8pm EST, from the Nokia theatre in LA. Invented in 1973 by Dick Clark, when ABC lost the rights to the Grammys, the first awards were co-presented by Donny Osmond and Michael Jackson. This year’s ceremony is presented by Pitbull, who also did the honours last year. This is the Scottish comedian Limmy’s memorable take on the rapper.
At the moment we’re watching the red carpet, very recently trodden by One Direction.

They’re one of the 18 acts performing, alongside Taylor Swift, Lorde, Aussie pop-punk toerags 5 Seconds of Summer and Jennifer Lopez and Iggy Azalea are performing Booty, to the consternation of ABC TV execs. They’ve been stipulated that there will be “no cracks and no rubbing”.
