The 20 quarterbacks who have thrown the most interceptions in NFL history

Sometimes passes find their way into the wrong hands. The best of the best throw picks and the longer you play, chances are the more interceptions a quarterback has thrown. A lot of Hall-of-Fame names are on the list of quarterbacks who have thrown the most interceptions.

20. Joe Namath

Joe Namath loved to throw the ball, especially deep. He played for a pair of teams and threw 220 interceptions. The former Alabama star led his leagues in picks four times, twice throwing 28.

20. Babe Parilli

Babe Parilli played for five teams in the AFL and NFL. He threw 220 picks, like Joe Namath. In 1964, Parilli threw 31 TD passes to lead the AFL and 27 picks, which also led the league.

19. Ken Stabler

The rebellious and feisty Ken Stabler was a Raider who loved to throw the ball around the field. He played for three teams and threw more picks than TD passes (222-194). Stabler led the NFL twice in interceptions.

18. John Brodie

John Brodie spent his entire career with the 49ers. He led the league in passes thrown (404) and picks (21) in 1968. Overall, Brodie threw 224 picks.

17. John Elway

The fantastic John Elway played his entire career in Denver. The former Stanford star threw 226 interceptions, the most in one season was 23 in 1985.

15. Drew Brees

Drew Brees can still add to his pick total as he continues to play for the New Orleans Saints. The elite former Purdue star has thrown 233 interceptions, leading the league only once, when he tossed 19 picks in 2012.

15. Warren Moon

Warren Moon threw 77 picks in the CFL before he came down to star in the NFL. The former Washington great played for four NFL teams and led the league in picks twice as a Houston Oiler. Overall, he threw 233 NFL picks. Combined that adds up to 310 but for this exercise the CFL will not be incorporated.

14. Eli Manning

USATIn 232 games, Giants quarterback Eli Manning has thrown 239 interceptions. In two Super Bowl victories, however, he just has one pick.

13. Dan Fouts

Dan Fouts played his entire career with the Chargers. He threw 242 picks in his career, never leading the league. In 1979 and ’80, Fouts threw 24 picks in each season.

12. Bobby Layne

Bobby Layne twice led the NFL in picks during a career that saw him play for four teams. In 1949, he threw 18 of his career 243 picks while playing for … the New York Yankees.

11. Jim Hart

Jim Hart played for two teams, but all 247 of his picks were thrown when he was a Cardinal. He only threw seven passes in his final season, which was with Washington, in 1984.

10. Y.A. Tittle

The late, great Y.A. Tittle played for three teams while throwing 242 picks. He led the league twice, with 18 in 1949 and 28 in 1955.

9. Peyton Manning

Peyton Manning played for a pair of teams in his illustrious career. The only time he led the league in picks was as a rookie when he threw 28. Overall, Manning tossed 251 INTs.

8. Dan Marino

Dan Marino threw 252 interceptions. He led the league in picks thrown once, when he threw 22 in 1989. Overall, his career-high was 23. Factor in Marino threw 420 TD passes and for 61,361 yards.

7. Johnny Unitas

No one should be surprised Johnny Unitas appears on the list. The Colts great played a long and strong career and being here is no insult, rather a compliment to the amount of times he put the ball in the air. Unitas threw 25 picks in a season three times, and twice it led the NFL. Overall, he threw 253 picks. Remember, however, Johnny U threw for more than 40,000 yards in a legendary career.

6. Norm Snead

Norm Snead played for five teams and threw interceptions while on each of them. He led the league four times in picks. The most picks thrown by Snead came in 1963 when as a Redskin he tossed 27 of his career 257 interceptions.

5. Fran Tarkenton

Fran Tarkenton was the master of the scramble. That occasionally led to a pass finding its way into the hands of opponents. The only time he led the league in picks was his final season of 1978, when he threw 32 in his second stint as a Viking. Overall. he threw 266 INTs.

4. Vinny Testaverde

Vinny Testaverde seemed to play forever. He was in the league long enough to play for seven teams. He led the league in picks four times en route to throwing 268. The only team the Heisman winner of Miami did not throw a pick while playing for was the Patriots.

3. John Hadl

John Hadl is another QB who played for four teams. He spanned the AFL and NFL. Hadl threw 268 picks. Twice he led his league in passes thrown and in both those seasons he led the league in interceptions.

2. George Blanda

The great George Blanda played for four teams. Much of the latter part of his career was as a kicker. He still threw 277 picks. Blanda led the AFL four consecutive years in interceptions thrown. He tossed 124 of his 277 picks in those four seasons. He actually threw on INT as a 48-year-old Raider in 1975.

1. Brett Favre

Brett Favre has many records. This is one he can wear was a badge of honor, suggesting how long his career lasted. Favre threw picks for four teams, including a pair as a Falcon. Overall, his passes found opponents 336 times. He led the league in picks thrown three times.
