20 photos: a service for the victims of MH17
The week's photojournalism has been dominated by images of suffering and loss from Ukraine, Gaza and Israel. It has been a difficult time for picture editors, as well as photographers, summed up eloquently by the Guardian's head of photography, Roger Tooth, in this piece.

Reuters photographer Danish Siddique shot an essay on life at the Mumukshu Bhavan (home of the ailing) in Varanasi, in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The city of Varanasi, on the banks of the River Ganges, is widely considered Hinduism's holiest city and many Hindus believe that dying there and having their remains scattered in the Ganges allows their soul to escape a cycle of death and rebirth, attaining 'moksha' or salvation.
