The 20 most expensive footballers in the world - with Cristiano Ronaldo at No.20

The summer transfer window has really begun to click into gear, with Eden Hazard's move to Real Madrid potentially kickstarting the huge deals that we could see the biggest clubs pull off this summer.

But who really are the most expensive players in world football right now?

Not because we don't want to, of course. But because the CIES Football Observatory have done it for us.

That's right, everyone's favourite football observatory have crunched the numbers and taken things like age, contract length and position into account when coming up with their definitive list of the costliest players in the game's top five leagues - England, France, Italy, Germany and Spain - right now, with some potentially making moves during this transfer window and one doing so already.

These two are in the top 10 (Andrew Powell)

And we're going to show you the top 20.

It is a list that includes 12 Premier League players, 10 Ballons d'Or, four Englishmen and four new European champions, and showcases the very best and brightest in the world game.
