The 2 players tipped for Premier League Hall of Fame induction - and Arsenal fans won't like it

A big debate has been sparked among fans of Premier League clubs after it was confirmed that a new Hall of Fame was being launched.

The Premier League have confirmed a new Hall of Fame is being created to recognise the players of “exceptional skill and talent” from home and abroad who have played in the top division since it began in 1992.

Two players will be confirmed as the initial members of the Hall of Fame, with the next inductees voted for by fans.

Candidates must have retired and only their Premier League career will be considered as being relevant.

Premier League top scorer: Who leads the race for the golden boot?

The first two inductees will be confirmed in March, and fans from Arsenal and Manchester United are among those to have clashed with a host of names being suggested.

But it is former Blackburn and Newcastle striker Alan Shearer and Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs who are currently the favourites to be the first two players inducted.

Also in contention is believed to be Arsenal’s top-scorer Thierry Henry and his long-time team-mate and captain Patrick Vieira.

United’s Paul Scholes, Roy Keane and Eric Cantona are also talked about as possible candidates, along with former Chelsea pair Frank Lampard and John Terry.

Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard is also considered one of those in contention.

OddsMonkey spokesman Peter Watton commented: “The new Premier League Hall of Fame has really got the fans excited, and the speculation is now rife about who the first two inductees will be.

“Bookmakers are seemingly convinced that Alan Shearer and Ryan Giggs will be the first two through the doors of the new Hall of Fame!”

Shearer is currently the odds-on favourite with OddsMonkey at 1/4 to be one of the first players inducted into the Hall of Fame, with Giggs also odds-on at 1/2.

Henry is the third favourite at 6/4, followed by Scholes at 7/1 and Vieira at 8/1.
