The 2 Nottinghamshire coronavirus hotspots as county enters Tier 4

Two areas in Nottinghamshire have recorded high coronavirus infection rates as the county enters Tier 4.

The new set of restrictions came into effect at 00.01am today (Thursday, December 31) as the government attempts to stop the spread of Covid-19.

The whole of Nottinghamshire, as well as Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Lincolnshire have been put into the highest risk tier.

Despite this, only two areas have rates higher than 400 cases per 100,000 people in Nottinghamshire - classing them as one of the country's hotspots for the virus.

The latest data is for the week leading up to December 25 and is released by the government in a form of an interactive map.

The map uses Middle Super Output Areas (MSOAs) and displays weekly data which updated daily.

Middle Layer Super Output Areas are larger than electoral wards but smaller than Districts with an average population of around 8,000 people.

Areas with rates above 400 are highlighted in purple, while areas with lower rates are shown in white, yellow or green.

Bilborough North has an infection rate of 451.7 due to 31 positive cases in the most recent seven day period. This makes it one of the neighbourhoods with the highest Covid infection rate in Nottinghamshire.

Meanwhile Kirkby Larwood and Kingsway, in Kirkby in Ashfield, also has a rate fare higher than the national average.

The area's infection rate is 476.6 per 100,000 people. There have been 45 cases in the seven days leading to December 25.

Other areas in Nottinghamshire with high rates are Wilford and Silverdale, where it currently stands at 389.2, and Wollaton Vale where it is 367.1.
