The 2 Johnnies return to RTE and open their 2FM show differently than many listeners expected

Comedy duo The 2 Johnnies returned to the airwaves on Monday after a hiatus from their 2FM show.

Johnny B and Johnny Smacs came under fire last month after they were accused of airing "sexist and insulting comments" in their podcast and clips used to promote their drivetime radio show.

The Tipperary natives had only started their stint on the RTE station presenting the show three days earlier.

After the remarks emerged, they were taken off the air with RTE saying they are "reviewing the matter".

Following this, RTE said they have concluded their investigation after engaging "intensively" with The 2 Johnnies in respect of the breaches and confirmed they would be back on air from Monday.

Many fans of the duo were eagerly awaiting their return to 2FM, with listeners also curious to see whether the recent controversy would be addressed.

Some assumed the presenters would address the issue at the beginning of the show, however, there was no mention of the matter at any stage during the programme.

“What’s the craic, it’s good to be here, and it’s great to be back," the show opened.

The Cahir natives went on to discuss anecdotes from their hometown, the Kardashians and even the lambing season, while also playing throwback tunes in between the chats.

The comedians received widespread criticism for comments made in a clip promoting an ‘Irish Car Stickers’ segment on their podcast.

The slogans sent in by listeners, which were described by the hosts as "scandalous", included: “Tyres are like women, no good unless they are squealing” and “She’s not a princess, she’s a sl*t.”

The pair issued two apologies on the incident, both via a statement and in a video on their Instagram account, saying they got it wrong on this occasion.
