The 2 areas of Nottinghamshire with a coronavirus infection rate above 1,000

Two areas of Nottinghamshire now have infection rates well above the national average.

According to the latest Government data, two areas in the north of the county are now reporting infection rates of more than 1,000 cases per 100,000 people.

The neighbourhoods, Sutton Central and Leamington and nearby Forest Town and Newlands, have both recorded a substantial rise in the number of new cases in the seven days to January 9 (the latest available data).

Sutton Central and Leamington, in the Ashfield district, currently has the highest infection rate in all of Nottinghamshire at 1,131.1 cases per 100,000 people.

The neighbourhood has recorded a total of 90 new cases in the past seven days, upon a rise by 38 cases (73.1%) compared to the week before.

Just north-east of Mansfield sits Forest Town and Newlands, which has the second highest infection rate in the county at 1,013.8 cases per 100,000 people.

The area has recorded 114 new cases in the past seven days to January 9, upon a rise by 63 cases (123.6%) compared to the week before.

Ashfield, Mansfield and Nottingham city continue to report an increase in new cases each day.

As of January 15, a further 716 coronavirus cases were reported in 24 hours.

It comes as more and more vaccination centres open across the city and county, but there has been confusion over just how people are supposed to book - or wait - for an appointment.
