The 1st quarter has been an issue for the Warriors in recent games

The Golden State Warriors are only 5-4 over their last nine games, which includes four losses over their last six, and losses in their last two. Getting swept in their two games in Florida was the first time that the team has lost consecutive games since the end of December.

One underlying issue over their last nine games — even in the wins — has been that the team has come out of the gates lethargic and out of rhythm. In their last three losses, the Warriors have been down by six, 10 and 15 points after the first quarter. Over their last nine games, the Warriors are a combined -24 in the opening period, according to Anthony Slater.

The Warriors haven’t had a thorough, dominating start to finish win since their 141-102 route over the San Antonio Spurs. Even in their wins, it’s been rare to see the team clicking in its entirety. Some of the struggles can be charged to the fact that the Warriors are coming off four consecutive Finals runs, which will take a toll on just about anyone.

However, this is still one of the most talented rosters in the NBA with an opportunity for the top seed in the Western Conference and potentially the best record in the NBA overall. During this dynastic run, the Warriors have had home court advantage in the Finals every season, and would surely love to go into a fifth series with the opportunity to play four of the seven in Oracle Arena.

Things are going to have to start turning around for them coming out of the gate, and soon. Golden State’s next three games are all against teams that could potentially unseat the Warriors as champs in the postseason: Philadelphia, Boston and Denver.
