The 1975 slammed by families of Manchester bombing victims as Matt Healy wears suicide vest in video

The 1975 have come under fire from families of the Manchester terror attack after frontman Matt Healy can be seen wearing a suicide vest in the video for the new single.

Ariana Grande had just finished her show at the Manchester Arena in May 2017 when suicide bomber Salman Abedi detonated a homemade explosive device in the arena foyer, killing 22 people.

And now relatives of some of those who lost their lives in the attack have slammed The 1975 for the stunt in the video for People, which they feel is all the more insensitive given that the band, fronted by Matt, son of Tim Healy and Denise Welch, are from the area, even having 'Manchester' as the only word on their Twitter bio.

Figen Murray, whose son Martyn Hett, was among those killed in the bombing, tweeted "The 1975. Matt Healey.....what the hell were you thinking of releasing a music video where you carry a suicide vest and blow yourself up?

"You are from Manchester. Be ashamed..... be very ashamed. It is disgusting and an insult to the 22 people murdered."

And, speaking to The Sun on Sunday , Alex Klis, 21, whose parents lost their lives in the attack two years ago, said“I expect better, especially from somebody who is from Manchester.

“Putting yourself in a suicide vest is so insensitive.

“Terrorist attacks are not something you use to make a music video look ‘cool’.”

The 1975 have yet to respond to the criticism.
