More than 700 artists, managers, producers and companies from across the UK music industry have signed a letter calling for unity again racism.
The 1975, Lewis Capaldi and Little Mix are among the artists that have signed the letter urging everyone in the music industry to speak out and eradicate racism.
Part of the statement reads: “We, the British music industry are proudly uniting to amplify our voices, to take responsibility, to speak out and stand together in solidarity. Silence is not an option.”
The letter is accompanied by the hashtag #NoSilenceInMusic.
Organisers said it was prompted by 'too many examples of racism and intolerance' in the industry.
It follows an anti-Semitic outburst by grime artist Wiley around a fortnight ago, which led to a social media blackout.
Wiley, real name is Richard Cowie, posted a series of posts on the social media site starting last month, and was initially given a temporary ban.
After Facebook and Instagram banned Wiley from its platforms, Twitter then permanently suspended him.
Artists who have signed the open letter have also pledged their support for the Black Lives Matter movement.
Global protests have taken place in recent months following the death of George Floyd, who died after being forcibly pinned down by police officers in the USA.
Other artists to sign the open letter include Nile Rodgers, Rita Ora, Clean Bandit, Biffy Clyro, Jess Glynne and Niall Horan.
