The 1975 deliver x-rated passionate speech during Leeds Festival headline set

The 1975 lead singer Matt Healy gave an impassioned speech during the band’s headline slot at Leeds Festival.

The frontman, who called the group’s Saturday headline appearance the greatest moment of his life, took the occasion to talk about the environment and climate change.

He declared his support for 16-year-old Swedish activist Greta Thunberg which was met by loud cheers.

“We need to be taken seriously as a generation. And, it starts like Greta says at the grassroots level,” he said.

“When you leave make sure this place is really clean - that might be really patronising.

“We are going to sing this song about America, other places and you need to sort your s**t out but we can’t be taken seriously if we don’t take ourselves seriously.”

Leeds Festival is spreading a strong environmental message this and event founder Melvin Benn has stated he wants everyone to take their tents home with them.
