The 1975 cancel Australian gig as Matty Healy is hospitalised with 'serious sickness'

The 1975 cancelled their gig in Australia last night after lead singer Matty Healy was hospitalised with a "serious sickness".

The pop rock band had been due to play the Laneway Festival in Brisbane but Matty was told he was "too weak to play" after a medical examination.

Taking to Twitter, they said they were "devastated" by the cancellation and hoped that Matty would be well enough to perform their gig in Sydney today.

A statement said: "It is with great regret that we are unable to play this evening in Brisbane.

"Unfortunately, after a medical examination at 5.30pm today the doctor has advised that Matty is too weak to play.

"We hope to be back on track for tomorrow’s show in Sydney.

"Thanks in advance for everyone’s understanding and apologies for the lateness of this announcement.

"We are all devastated to miss tonight’s show but have to put Matty’s welfare first."

After fans panicked about his health, with some even concerned that he has the coronavirus, Matt took to Twitter to reassure everyone.

He posted: "Guys thank you for all your lovely wishes :).

"I am alive and well s*** just got way too vibey.

"I'm still taking it easy but I'll see you tonight for maybe quite a calm set which could be nice anyway!!"

The 1975 are on a tour across Australia before they return to the UK, with shows in London, Nottingham, Bournemouth and Manchester coming up.
