The 1975 announce new Leeds show after divisive Leeds Festival 2022 set

Fresh from stepping in for Rage Against The Machine at Leeds Festival The 1975 has announced they will be returning for a further show in the city.

Matt Healy’s band proved to be a somewhat divisive booking for last weekend’s fun at Bramham Park. They took over Rage Against The Machine’s headline slot for Leeds Fest and sister event Reading Festival.

They pulled their European tour performances after frontman Zack de la Rocha injured his leg mid-performance in Chicago during a recent gig. The 1975’s last-minute booking as a replacement certainly got people talking.

Frontman Healy paid a tribute, of sorts, to those The 1975 replaced during his band’s headline performance. We are The 1975 from down the road. This is the most hometown show that we have. Seventeen of the past 20 years I have been stood here with you guys so this means so f******* much to me that you guys are here right now.

"And I'm sorry we're not Rage Against The Machine but who's Rage Against The Machine?" This question prompted some boos from the crowd, before Matt added: "I mean give it up for the greatest rock band of the previous generation, ladies and gentlemen please.

"Being literally in Rage Against The Machine and having a gammy leg is quite funny though. We're The 1975 so we're just going to be The 1975 as much as we can. We weren't even supposed to do this we were going to come on tour and see you guys and do specific stuff but we thought 'f*** it, we'll do a greatest hits set to start out our campaign'."

The 1975 will be returning to Leeds at the start of 2023 in support of the release of their forthcoming record Being Funny In A Foreign Language. They will be playing at Leeds First Direct Arena on Monday, January 23.

You will be able to buy tickets from Ticketmaster.
