The 17 places in Swansea that have a Covid rate of over 100 cases per 100,000

There are 17 areas in Swansea which now have a Covid infection rate over 100, latest figures show.

This is a slight decrease from last week, where 18 areas had infection rates over 100. Despite this, the number of people in hospital with Covid is still low across Swansea Bay Health Board which covers the city and Neath Port Talbot.

The latest data published by Public Health Wales (PHW) on Thursday, August 5, identified 681 new cases in the 24 hours up to Wednesday morning, bringing the total number of cases since the pandemic began to 244,538.

Three new deaths have been reported, meaning the total number of people who have died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 has risen to 5,623.

The latest infection rate across Wales as a whole is now 133.4 per 100,000 people, based on the seven days up to July 31, down from 136.3 the previous day. Wales’ infection rate has now fallen steadily over more than a week.

How many people with coronavirus are in hospital?

Data up until August 4 shows that out of the 1,162 general and acute beds occupied across Swansea Bay University Local Health Board, 11 of those are taken up by a Covid-19 case - eight less than last week.

Out of 39 invasive ventilated beds available across the board, one bed is currently being occupied by a Covid-19 case.

Which areas of Swansea currently have the highest rates of coronavirus?

Swansea's infection rate is currently 113.4 (down from 115) from the day before. This data is for the days up to July 31.

Seventeen areas of the city currently have an infection rate over 100. Townhill currently has the highest with 220, followed by Gowerton (209) and Llangyfelach & Tircoed- (202)

Last week, it was revealed that a fifth of adults under 40 in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot had still not had their first dose of a Covid vaccine.

Out of 78,000 eligible adults under 40 in the Swansea Bay University Health Board area, around 16,000 or 20% remain unvaccinated. Other figures from Public Health Wales suggest the total could be even higher, closer to 30%.
