The 15 Nottingham school areas earmarked for new traffic restrictions

Multiple Nottingham roads have been earmarked to become 'School Streets' in a bid to make travel safer for residents and families.

School Streets are just one of the many Active Travel Schemes by Nottingham City Council, looking to encourage sustainable travel.

A spokesperson for the council said: "The roads outside schools are typically very busy at school drop off and pick up times.

"This leads to traffic congestion, idling vehicles, pavement parking and limited opportunities for pedestrians to cross the road, as well as difficulties for local residents and businesses.

"We want to change this by reducing the amount of traffic on the roads outside schools, through the School Streets initiative. The scheme will help to provide a safe and welcoming space to encourage more children and parents to walk, scoot and cycle to school rather than travel by car."

Changes include permanent 'no entry' points to some roads.

Then, all School Streets will have designated entry points using planters, in place at all times with a flashing amber warning sign to indicate when traffic should not enter the area.

Residents, school staff, businesses and delivery vehicles will maintain access - the School Street will not be available for through traffic or for school pick up and drop off.

In future, when the government provides the relevant powers, the council will be considering a camera enforceable restriction in some areas.

The council is seeking comments for and against the proposals with a deadline of April 5 except for three schools, which have April 9 deadlines.

These are the schools and their related access roads that have been proposed to become a School Street and will be subject to the above restrictions:
