The 16 confirmed Manchester United players who are going to the World Cup

Sunday will mark Manchester United's last fixture before the Premier League pauses for the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

Excitement has been building this week as more international squads have been announcing their squads for the tournament. At present, 16 United stars will be representing their teams in Qatar and there are still more players who could be heading on the plane to the World Cup.

MEN Sport has broken down each group and looked at which United players will feature in them.

Group A

Netherlands

In Group A, United's sole representative will be Tyrell Malacia. The full-back featured in the Reds' victory over Aston Villa on Thursday but has struggled for game time since his half-time substitution in the Manchester derby.

Other teams in Group A - Qatar, Ecuador and Senegal

Group B

England

Three United stars have been chosen by Gareth Southgate to represent England this winter. Harry Maguire is the most controversial pick of the trio having struggled for game time at United of late.

Luke Shaw has re-established himself in Ten Hag's line-up ahead of Malacia and has been rewarded while Marcus Rashford is deservedly on the plane thanks to his much improved form. Jadon Sancho and Dean Henderson have missed out.

Other teams in Group B - Iran, USA and Wales

Group C

Argentina

Following his solid performances in defence for United, Lisandro Martinez has made it into the Argentina squad for Qatar. Alejandro Garnacho had an outside chance of reaching the tournament but has missed out on this occasion.

Other teams in Group C - Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Poland

Group D

Denmark

Christian Eriksen will make an emotional return to a major tournament in Qatar after his fine performances for United earned him a place on the plane. This will be the first time he has featured at such a competition since his cardiac arrest at Euro 2020 vs Finland.

France

Raphael Varane's hopes of making the World Cup looked to be hanging in the balance after hobbling off against Chelsea. However, Didier Deschamps has selected the defender, insisting he will be fit for their opening group game.

Anthony Martial's injury riddled season has prevented him from receiving a call-up but he showed Deschamps what he was missing with a goal on Thursday night. Hannibal Mejbri, the United midfielder who is on loan at Birmingham, has been called up to Tunisia's squad.

Other team in Group D - Australia

Group E

No United players will feature in Group E at this year's tournament. The closest to receive a call was David de Gea for Spain but the goalkeeper is currently out of Luis Enrique's plans.

Other teams in Group E - Germany, Japan and Costa Rica

Group F

No United players will feature in Group F either. Canada are yet to announce their squad but there is no Reds interest there.

Other teams in Group F - Morocco, Croatia and Belgium

Group G

Brazil

United are heavily represented in Group G with four players making the cut. Casemiro, Fred and Antony have all been named in Tite's side having become reliable players in his system.

Alex Telles is currently on loan from United at Sevilla and his performances in La Liga have also merited a place in the squad.

Other teams in Group G - Switzerland, Cameroon and Serbia

Group H

Portugal

Cristiano Ronaldo will once again lead the Portuguese into a major tournament. This is likely to be his last ever World Cup so he will be hoping to go out on a high.

Diogo Dalot's performances at right-back have been sensational this campaign and he will be hoping to be given a starting berth in Qatar. Bruno Fernandes has also been chosen after showing good composure to deal with the captain's armband in Maguire's absence.

Uruguay

Facundo Pellistri has been picked for the World Cup despite being on the peripheries of the United squad. His agent has already declared that Qatar is a big chance for him to earn a move away from Old Trafford.

Other teams in Group H - South Korea and Ghana
