The £14 Newcastle pie cooked by a celeb that people are offering 'bribes' for

It could well be the most expensive pie on Tyneside.

Costing £14, it is packed full of lobster - and cooked by a celebrity chef.

However Peace of Pie's latest dish sold out in under FOUR minutes after it was launched this week.

The Jesmond venue's special lobster thermidor pie was created to celebrate National Pie Week.

And Si King, one half of the Hairy Bikers, helped knock up the luxurious dish this week, which was in such high demand customers even tried to bribe the venue's chef.

"I made 30 of those pies and they sold out in less than four minutes, and I had to tell everyone else all day that there were none left," said Dave Coulson.

"People were a bit gutted. I had people even trying to bribe me, asking if I would keep one back for them the next day.

"But people were loving them, and we had over 1,000 likes on Instagram alone."

While the price may raise a few eyebrows, there's a reason it costs £14.

The pie shop has popped up while the adjacent fine dining venue Peace and Loaf is closed during lockdown.

Known for high end grub, the quality ingredients were never going to be lacking and Dave admits spending £164 on three lobsters to help make the dish.

And also, he's keen to point out - why can't a pie be a bit posh?

"You can go to about seven places in Newcastle, and buy a pea, mint and falafel wrap for about £7.50, so why not have a good quality pie." said Dave, whose pies usually sell for £4-a-pop.

And it also been created by TV cooking royalty, who Dave convinced to help him out on the phone one day during a morning walk.

And he couldn't speak highly enough about the Hairy Biker, adding: "He has a big following and is a very talented cook.

"He has a lot of knowledge and is a good person to know."

The venue was launched during the latest lockdown after former Masterchef contestant Dave admitted he was keen to get back in the kitchen,

ChronicleLive recently revealed how he had talked about opening a pie shop for several years, and that the pandemic accelerated those plans.

Now there's talk of keeping it open post-Covid - although sadly Dave can't even taste the poshest pie he has ever made.

"I'm actually allergic to shellfish," he admits.
